Gold Marcom Award: “I Will” Campaign; Category: Ads / Advertising CampaignPoly has won two 2007 Marcom Awards, a platinum award (the highest honor) for its “Great Careers Brochure” (cover pictured below) and a gold award for its “I Will” campaign. The Marcom Awards is an international competition for marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual and audio materials. It is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
Congratulations to Susan Lestingi, VP of Marketing and Communications and her team; to Joy Colelli, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions; and to our Recruitment Agency Partner, LF O’Connell of Islip, New York who developed the creative materials featuring Poly students. This fully-branded campaign brings Poly’s innovative thinking into action and targets teens, adults, and professionals. It will run in print media including newspaper and magazine, on the internet, in direct mail and with a parallel radio campaign.

George Bugliarello, President Emeritus and University Professor In Orlando, Florida on November 3, at the Annual Meeting of the Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, American Scientist magazine awarded its first George Bugliarello Prize to F. Gould, K. Magori and Yunxin Huang, for their article, “Genetic Strategies for Controlling Mosquito-Borne Diseases.”
The goal of the Bugliarello Prize is to inspire thoughtful discourse on how our life can be enhanced through a closer interaction of science and technology, biology and society. It honors a superior interdisciplinary essay, review of research or analytical article published in American Scientist, the bimonthly magazine of the Sigma Xi.
The Bugliarello Prize is endowed chiefly by gifts from the Teagle and Greenwall foundations honoring George Bugliarello, President Emeritus and University Professor, Polytechnic University. Bugliarello served as president of Polytechnic University from 1973 to 1994.

As reported in Dental Office Magazine, AFP Imaging Corporation was presented with the “Technology Impact Award” for its successful commercialization of CATT research in developing an advanced imaging process for the EVA line of digital dental sensors. The award was presented at CATT’s 25th Anniversary and Gala held at Poly on November 8.
Excerpts from Dental Office Magazine’s article:
The advanced technology allows EVA and EVA+ digital dental sensors to capture clear images by eliminating extraneous pixels, known as “noisy data,” which cloud or blur an image.
“De-noising” data-intensive digital x-rays is complex, so AFP Imaging entered into a collaborative research relationship with Professor Ivan Selesick of CATT in 2004 to improve the process.
“Before this collaboration, our images were not as crisp as we wanted them to be,” explained Donald Rabinovitch, president of AFP Imaging. “Fortunately, Professor Selesick had done considerable research in the area, and our close collaboration allowed us to transfer his basic research and apply it to our products. Clearly, our EVA sensors are now the clearest digital dental sensors on the market.”

Professor Zhong-Ping Jiang
Professor Zhong-Ping Jiang of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was recently elected an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to nonlinear control theory and underactuated mechanical systems.
IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments.
